The American Academy of Health and Fitness (AAHF), is a continuing education provider whose mission it is to instill quality of life throughout the gamut of aging. This is accomplished by providing continuing education through correspondence courses, workshops, and the website for certified personal trainers, athletic trainers, and other health and fitness professionls who are committed to safe and effective programs for youth, older adults and special populations.

TAMMY PETERSEN

Founder and Partner

Tammy Petersen is the Founder and Partner for the American Academy of Health and Fitness (AAHF). She has written two books on older adult fitness and designed corresponding training programs. Her first book, Functionally Fit, teaches certified nurse aides how to provide daily functional strength training as an accepted and expected part of the daily care plan for the chronic long-term care and assisted living patient. Her second book, SrFit, is the basis for an advanced training home study course approved for continuing education credits with the major personal trainer certification organizations and the Board of Certification for athletic trainers. Additionally, with her business partner Pete Bazzel, she has developed twelve educational programs: SrFit Mature Fitness Program, JrFit Youth Fitness Program, Cancer and the Older Adult, Developing Agility and Quickness for Sport Performance, Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription for All Ages, Exercise Management of Chronic Diseases and Disabilities for All Ages, Nutrition for Special Dietary Needs, Strength Training Older Adults, The Janda System of Evaluation and Treatment of Muscle Imbalance, Back Stability: Integrating Science and Therapy, Exercise and Cancer Survivorship, and Functionally Fit. Her educational background includes Bachelor of Science degrees in marketing and economics from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas. She also holds a Master of Science in Education in health and fitness, with an emphasis in geriatrics, from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Additionally, she is an author for Personal Training on the Net. And, her articles have appeared in IHRSA's Club Business for Entrepreneurs, Personal Fitness Professional, Club Industry's Fitness Business Pro, AFAA's American Fitness and OnSite Fitness.

PETE BAZZEL

Partner and Editor-in-Chief

Pete Bazzel served 24 years in the Army, retiring as a Colonel; 11 years in the fitness industry as an executive for Town Sports International, leading the Washington, D.C. regional growth of Town Sports International from five to 17 health clubs; prior to assuming his current position as a Partner and Editor-in-Chief with the American Academy of Health and Fitness responsible for providing continuing education to certified personal trainers and athletic trainers who are committed to safe and effective programs for youth, older adults and special populations. With his business partner, Tammy Petersen, he has developed twelve educational programs: SrFit Mature Fitness Program, JrFit Youth Fitness Program, Cancer and the Older Adult, Developing Agility and Quickness for Sport Performance, Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription for All Ages, Exercise Management of Chronic Diseases and Disabilities for All Ages, Nutrition for Special Dietary Needs, Strength Training Older Adults, The Janda System of Evaluation and Treatment of Muscle Imbalance, Back Stability: Integrating Science and Therapy, Exercise and Cancer Survivorship, and Functionally Fit. His educational background includes an undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Science in Industrial Relations from Purdue University and graduation from the National War College (a 10-month executive development program equivalent to a Master of Arts in International Affairs) at the National Defense University. He is an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer and a World Tae Kwon Do Federation Black Belt. Additionally, as an assistant professor at the United States Military Academy, he was a contributing editor to Leadership in Organizations. And as Chief of the Foreign Nations Branch, Counter–Narcotics Division, Joint Staff, he was a contributing author to the National Military Counter-Drug Strategy.
