Exercise Management of Chronic Diseases and Disabilities for All Ages™ home study continuing education course presents the latest research and applications for integrating exercise into the treatment of 49 chronic diseases and disabilities. The text book was developed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). A framework is established for determining functional capacity in persons with chronic diseases and disabilities and guidance in developing appropriate exercise programming to optimize functional capacity and reduce the compounding effects of exercise intolerance. The text format allows quick access to the pathology of interest, training and response to exercise, management of medications, and recommendations and special considerations of exercise testing and programming. Within the text, diseases and disorders are organized into seven sections: cardiovascular diseases; pulmonary diseases; metabolic diseases; immunological and hematological disorders; orthopedic diseases and disabilities; neuromuscular disorders; and cognitive, psychological, and sensory disorders. Exercise is presented as a viable component in the care and treatment of chronic disease and disability that can positively affect functional capacity and slow or prevent exercise intolerance.

This course is offered to you in a distance-learning format providing research based continuing education for health and fitness professionals (exercise physiologists, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, nurses, physicians, health and fitness instructors, and clinical program directors; also a textbook for students studying chronic disease, disabilities, or multiple conditions) who wish to dramatically increase their knowledge utilizing exercise as a viable component in the care and treatment of chronic disease and disability that can positively affect functional capacity and slow or prevent exercise intolerance.

Certified health and fitness professionals holding more than one certification may obtain CECs/CEUS for all approved certification organizations (see list above) for which they need continuing education at no additional cost.
