Description
The American College of Sports Medicine’s Professional Education Committee certifies that “American Academy of Health and Fitness” meets the criteria for official ACSM Approved Provider status from 2017 – December 2021– Providership # 817430.
The text synthesizes research and practice with concepts and theories from exercise physiology, kinesiology, measurement, psychology, and nutrition to clearly convey how assessments from physical fitness testing inform the design of individualized exercise programs.
It is an invaluable resource for health and fitness professionals—athletic trainers, exercise physiologists, personal trainers, and strength and conditioning coaches–who want to increase their knowledge, skill, and competence in assessing clients’ fitness and designing individualized exercise programs.
Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription for All Ages is a home study continuing education course for health and fitness professionals to safely and accurately assess cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, flexibility, and balance; then design safe and effective programs for resistance training, weight management, body composition, flexibility, low back care, and balance for all ages.
This course is offered in a distance-learning format providing research based continuing education for health and fitness professionals who wish to dramatically increase their knowledge of fitness assessment and exercise programming for all ages of clients.
Certified health and fitness professionals holding more than one certification may obtain CECs/CEUS for all approved certification organizations (see list above) for which they need continuing education at no additional cost.
Program Author:
Tammy Petersen is the Founder and a Partner of the American Academy of Health and Fitness (AAHF).
She has written two books on older adult fitness and designed corresponding training programs. Her first book, Functionally Fit, teaches certified nurse aides how to provide daily functional strength training as an accepted and expected part of the daily care plan for the chronic long-term care and assisted living patient. Her second book, SrFit, is the basis for an advanced training home study course approved for continuing education credits with the major personal trainer certification organizations and the Board of Certification for athletic trainers.
Her educational background includes Bachelor of Science degrees in marketing and economics from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas. In addition, she holds a Master of Science in Education in health and fitness, with an emphasis in geriatrics, from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas.

Upon succesfully completing this program, you will be able to:
